Hike to Monte Corrasi

Today’s journey takes you into the Supramonte di Oliena, a stark and stunning limestone mountain range in central Sardinia, to summit the island’s second-highest peak: Monte Corrasi (1,463 meters).

The trail begins near the Madonna della Neve church or from Valle Lanaittu, depending on the chosen route. You’ll climb steadily through fragrant forests of holm oak, juniper, and wild olive trees, entering a landscape shaped by wind, water, and time.

As you ascend, the trees give way to rocky highlands and karst formations — weathered cliffs, sinkholes, and lunar-like terrain. The views grow wider with every step: the lush valleys below, the dramatic ridgelines of the Supramonte, and, on clear days, even glimpses of the Golfo di Orosei shimmering on the eastern horizon.

The summit ridge is wide and open, offering 360-degree panoramas that feel truly remote and wild. Along the way, you may spot wild mouflons, griffon vultures, and hardy alpine flowers that cling to the limestone crevice.

Trail Notes:

  • Hiking Distance: ~10 km

  • Elevation: ~600 m ascent

  • Duration: 4-5 Hours round trip

  • Difficulty: Moderate to challenging

  • Best done with a local guide — trails are wild and occasionally unmarked.

  • Limestone rock can be sharp and uneven; sturdy hiking boots essential.

  • Pack enough water — there are no reliable springs on the route.

What makes this day special?

  • Raw beauty: Monte Corrasi is one of Sardinia’s wildest and most scenic summits.

  • Diverse terrain: From shady forests to alpine limestone ridges.

  • Incredible views: Spanning from the interior valleys to the eastern sea.

  • Quiet trails: Far from the coast’s crowds, this is Sardinia at its most serene and untamed.

Hike to Cala Ziu Santoru

Your final day in Sardinia is a quiet, soulful journey through one of the lesser-known stretches of the Gulf of Orosei. The hike to Cala Ziu Santoru offers a blend of solitude, natural beauty, and a satisfying sense of discovery — a hidden cove accessible only by foot or sea, far from the crowds.

The trail begins near Buchi Arta or an access road south of Orosei, gradually entering a lush Mediterranean scrubland filled with juniper, myrtle, wild olive, and fragrant herbs. Birdsong and the rustling of lizards accompany you as the path winds along the edge of limestone cliffs, offering dramatic views of the turquoise sea below.

As you approach the cove, the trail descends through pockets of pine and exposed rock, eventually reaching the secluded beach of Cala Ziu Santoru. This tiny crescent of white pebbles and clear blue water is surrounded by rugged cliffs — wild, silent, and pristine.

There are no buildings, no crowds — only the sound of waves and the soft crunch of stones underfoot. It’s an ideal place to rest, swim, snack, or simply reflect on the week’s adventures.

Trail Notes:

  • Hiking Distance: ~9 km

  • Elevation: ~400 m ascent/decent

  • Duration: 3-4 hours round trip

  • Difficulty: Moderate (some rocky uneven terrain)

  • No facilities — bring all you need (water, snacks, sunscreen).

  • Swimming is possible if conditions are calm — pack a towel.

What makes this day special?

  • Off-the-beaten-path: This cove isn’t on tourist maps — perfect for travelers seeking authenticity.

  • Intimate connection with nature: You’ll walk through untamed coastal forest and limestone bluffs with sweeping vistas.

  • Peaceful end to your journey: After a week of summit climbs and canyon scrambles, this trail offers a gentle, contemplative close to your Sardinian adventure.
